Y&R Recap – Aug 8: Cane Pressures Phyllis to Hack Genoa City’s Power Players as Billy Plots to Take Him Down from Within

Last Episode
On the last episode of Y&R, Victor planned to use Cane to destroy Jabot, while Claire stood up to Audra’s accusations.
Crimson Lights
Adam and Chelsea meet and discuss Connor returning to school. They are happy that things feel “normal” for their son.
Adam tells her about Victor dropping by the office.
Chelsea doesn’t blame Victor for wanting to protect his family and settle the score with Cane after what went down in Nice.
Adam wonders if she will feel the same knowing it means using Newman Media to do it.
Chelsea doesn’t like the look on Adam’s face.
Adam says that Billy is aligning with Cane and that he may come after Victor, as well as his own family.
Chelsea is convinced that Billy didn’t know Cane was Dumas.
Adam says it’s clear that Billy is cozying up to Cane.
Chelsea thinks Billy is just bluffing.
Adam informs her that things have changed and Billy has put a target on his back. Victor has no choice but to deal with that threat.
Chelsea is all about using Newman Media to go after Cane, but she needs proof that Billy is involved before she will sign off on the hit pieces.
Adam insists that Billy can handle himself.
Chelsea refuses to act unless the rumor is confirmed.
Adam knows Billy won’t admit it, and Cane won’t reveal his plans. He must trust his father’s instincts.
Chelsea wonders if she can get Billy to be honest with her.
Adam doesn’t think Billy trusts her after the hurt they caused him and Sally.
Chelsea says it must be an act of desperation if he’s aligning with Cane.
Adam doesn’t understand why Chelsea always comes to Billy’s defense.
Chelsea thinks Adam can’t be objective.
Adam thinks she fails to see that Billy is out for blood. He says that Billy aligning with Cane proves that he hasn’t moved on.
Chelsea could say the same is true about Victor.
Adam says there comes a time to pick sides, and Billy has chosen his. He suggests she choose hers and side with her family.
Cane’s GCAC Suite
Cane gets a call from Victor.
Victor says it’s urgent and instructs Cane to come to the ranch tonight.
Phyllis wonders if she should know who is demanding a meeting with her boss at this time of night.
Cane calls out how relentless Phyllis can be.
They toast to an exciting and unexpected collaboration.
Phyllis thanks him for finally giving her an audience in Nice. She cautions him that no one plays her and gets away with it.
Cane has no intentions of playing her, but he admits to enjoying the game.
Phyllis gathered as much while wandering through his mazes in Nice.
Cane wants to know how many people she’s lied to to get what she wants.
Phyllis claims she’s always true to herself and wants to know why he is doing this, because she thought she had already passed his test.
Cane says she did, but he will continue to challenge her every step of the way.
Phyllis gets why Cane doesn’t trust people. She confesses that she put her faith in Billy twice this past year, and he fired her.
Cane says that Billy will have his own tests to pass.
Phyllis wonders if there is anyone he trusts.
Cane and Phyllis know they must trust each other.
Phyllis wonders what poor, unfortunate soul they will give their confidence to first.
She admits to not being content standing on the sidelines.
Cane wants to set clear expectations for his colleagues.
Phyllis doesn’t like business jargon and wants real talk.
Cane wants them to align on the job requirements. He wants Phyllis to use her computer skills. He wants her to hack into Jabot, Chancellor, Winters, and Newman, and once they’re in, they’ll do some “shopping.”
Phyllis wants to know what’s on the shopping list.
Cane says he will give her the details once they are inside. He must leave for a meeting with Victor.
Phyllis offers to join him.
Cane says it’s at the ranch, and he can’t bring a plus one.
Phyllis knows she doesn’t have to warn Cane to be careful.
Cane says Victor is the one who is underestimating him.
Society
Billy runs into Jack at the restaurant.
Jack hasn’t heard from Cane yet and wonders if there has been a delay or change of heart.
Billy says the topic felt like a mutual decision.
Jack suggests that it was Billy’s idea, but they do agree on it. He can’t help but sense something is wrong.
Billy assures him everything is fine.
Jack suggests Billy is acting otherwise and wants to know if he’s met with Cane since they spoke.
Billy says he has, but the topic was derailed when Jill’s knowledge of Cane’s secret identity was revealed.
Jack can’t believe Jill knew and wants to know how the rest of the conversation went.
Billy says that Jill blames him for not reaching out about Chance, no matter how she betrayed him. He tells Jack about Jill visiting Colin at the chateau. He suggests that Jill is done with him and now has Cane, the son she wishes she had.
Jack is glad they ran into each other and sees his brother has some wounds that need tending.
Billy admits it still hurts seeing how connected Jill is to Cane.
Jack is sure that Jill still loves him. He reminds Billy about how he disappointed their father on more than one occasion.
Billy suggests that Cane casts a shadow big enough to cover his existence. He vows to prove his mother wrong. With or without Cane, he will get Chancellor back.
Jack wonders if Billy already knows Cane’s plans.
Billy says he does and that things in Genoa City are about to get very ugly.
Jack already suspected that Cane’s ambitions went beyond getting Chancellor.
Billy tells his brother that Cane wants Jabot, Newman, and Winters.
Jack suggests that Cane is delusional.
Billy says he is crazy like a fox.
Jack says they must do something to stop him.
Billy warns that he is committed and confident, and he’s not alone. He has a soldier cheering him on: Phyllis! He suggests that his brother not underestimate what Cane is capable of.
Jack can’t believe how Cane wants all the toys in the sandbox. He wonders why Cane told Billy the details.
Billy tells him that if it hadn’t been for the conversation with Jill, he might not be telling him this now.
Jack wants Billy to tell him he wasn’t considering betraying his family to get Chancellor back.
Billy says he was blown away by Cane’s plans, but he didn’t say no.
Jack can’t believe Billy considered this as an option.
Billy promises he will always have his brother’s back.
Jack is relieved to hear that.
Billy says he told Cane he needs to think about it.
Jack instructs his brother not to waste any more time and to tell Cane that he’s in.
Billy is shocked.
Jack says they need someone on the inside to know what Cane’s moves are.
Billy wonders what about Abbott Communications.
Jack says he will remain the investor.
Billy appreciates Jack always being there on his side. He informs him that he has already told Cane that they are going their separate ways, and Jack will be bought out.
Jack says they will use that to their advantage. He wants them to work together to bring Cane down from the inside.
Phyllis enters and greets the plotting siblings.
Billy says he was telling Jack about his mother’s continuous betrayal.
Jack tells Billy they will continue their conversation and leaves.
Phyllis tells Billy that she got the feeling he was selling Cane out.
Billy says they must stop undercutting each other.
Phyllis says that Cane feels that all of his tension with Jill will affect him in business. She asserts that Cane wanted her to come and tell him that the offer is off the table.
Billy thinks he and Phyllis disagree on who is a weak link. He suggests she took advantage of the situation after he left Cane’s suite.
Phyllis wants to know how he feels when someone offers him a job and rips it from them.
Billy reminds her that he saved her life in the clinic.
Phyllis corrects him and says that Nick saved her.
Billy calls out how she plans to repay Nick by taking over his family company. He says Cane will look him in the eye if he wants him out.
Phyllis insists that it’s over.
Billy says, “We’ll see,” and leaves.
Newman Ranch
Cane meets with Victor.
Victor wants to know if he’s given any thought to his proposal in Nice.
Cane asks if he means needing help in taking down Jabot? He reminds Victor that the only company he is interested in acquiring is Chancellor.
Victor can’t believe Cane thinks he should trust him.
Cane wants to know what Victor thinks the truth is.
Victor calls out all of Cane’s recent real estate acquisitions.
Cane suggests Victor is more upset about Nikki almost selling him Chancellor in exchange for Nick’s freedom in Nice.
Victor says that was a bad move and suggests he change his focus to Jabot… Together, they could crush the Abbotts! Victor waits for Cane’s answer, certain that teaming up could bring the Abbotts to their knees.

Jack shares his concerns about having to put all their family and faith in Billy’s hands.
Lily visits Cane on his train.
