Mysuru: Opposition leader R Ashoka on Tuesday contended that law and order deteriorated
in the state as the Congress govt indulged in appeasement politics. The attack in Udayagiri is a case in point, he stated.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Udayagiri police station, he said police personnel,
including senior officials, were injured in the violent attack on the police station. “Congress ministers and legislators expressed their dissatisfaction with the law and order in the state following the incident. The attack on the police station was aimed at demoralising the police force. But sadly, the state govt did not act swiftly,” he stated.
He demanded the govt arrest all those involved in the attack on the police station and the cops, even as he said home minister G Parameshwara is not interested in the home department he is tasked to handle. CM Siddaramaiah should wake up from slumber, Ashoka said. “Siddaramaiah will be in power till Nov. At least till then, he should govern the state effectively, extending safety and security to the citizens,” he added.
Ashoka also met police commissioner Seema Latkar at the police station and gathered information.Meanwhile, former MP Pratap Simmha contended that the violent mob specifically targeted the police during the protest. It was a deliberate act, he told reporters. Siddaramaiah has failed to handle law and order in his hometown, he said.
State BJP spokesperson MG Mahesh said the attack on the Udayagiri police station is akin to KG Halli and DG Halli violence in Bengaluru. Local MLA Tanveer Sait, who is also KPCC working president, has failed to rein in anti-social elements in the Narasimharaja segment, he stated.
However, KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana accused Simmha of inciting the violence in Udayagiri. He is the mastermind behind the violence and should be arrested, he told reporters. The youth who posted the poster leading to the violence is an adherent follower of Simmha, Lakshmana claimed. He claimed RSS is behind the violence. He said the poster denigrated AICC top brass Rahul Gandhi and sought the police to act as per the law.
