Actor Olly Rix is set to grace the screens of BBC’s Casualty this month, transitioning from his familiar role in Call The Midwife to a fresh character. In anticipation of his entrance to the show, the 40-year-old joined The One Show, teasing viewers with what’s in store.
During the chat, host Clara Amfo expressed her excitement, commenting: “Olly, for the first time, we’re going to be seeing things from the patient’s perspective which is so interesting.”
She was eager to learn about the innovative filming techniques used. In response, Olly explained: “I was sort of built into a rig, the episode switched from my POV and then a reverse of an extreme close-up of my eyes.
“It’s quite an isolating experience which I think really fed into the performance.” He also praised the director’s approach to how the shots were created, reports the Mirror.

He added:”The director, George Siougas, is fantastic. He set it up, so it was a very organic process. I just got to look where I wanted to look at, which led to the tone and the shape of the show.”
It won’t be just Olly making a debut on Casualty as Robert Bathurst from Downton Abbey will also appear. Clara drew attention to the intricate relationship between their characters.
Shedding light on the dynamic, Olly revealed: “Russell (Robert’s character) is my father-in-law. I come into the world of Holby from that quite specific background.

“Obviously, we’re from pretty different worlds and have pretty different tempos and thoroughly dislike each other on-screen!”
Discussing his character, Robert disclosed that Russell is adept at his profession, yet seems indifferent to public opinion. On discussing the intricate dynamics of the role, he remarked: “Things happen during the next weeks which are quite surprising, I think and they reveal a certain amount.”
He further reflected on the character’s self-perception by stating: “Whatever he does, he’s entirely confident that he’s a marvellous person.”
The question lingers as to whether Casualty’s hospital team will extend a warm reception to them.

An intriguing synopsis for an upcoming episode hints at positive developments for one of the show’s characters.
The summary for the episode reads: “Special episode told from a patient’s point of view, telling the story of a man involved in a road accident who is struggling to balance his family life and his military service – particularly in light of his affair with an officer who is severely injured in the crash. Stevie is surprised to find she recognises him, while Jodie asks Dylan to celebrate some good news with her.
