Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Tall, handsome, spiritual – Hollyoaks’ Jez Blake really is John Paul McQueen’s perfect man.
Apart from the small detail that he’s also a serial killer…
Of course, the lovestruck McQueen has no idea about the secrets his fiancé has buried in the allotment,
and as the pair plan their engagement party Jez is struggling with keeping his string of murders under wraps. Surely this relationship is doomed? We ask show favourite James Sutton about his character cosying up to a psychopath.
Hi, James! Is John Paul excited about getting engaged to Jez?
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind romance, but they got together in the time jump so you have to add a year! He is very happy and loves the idea of settling down, Jez seems like an upstanding, peaceful guy and John Paul is looking forward to being a Blake-McQueen.”

How does the engagement party go?
“Myra is in charge of organising and decorations, which is why there’s these awful cutouts of John Paul and Jez attached to naked male statues and awful banners and rainbow flags everywhere! Myra is being an ally the only way she can, which is over the top, very brash and a little bit embarrassing!”
The party comes to an abrupt end, doesn’t it?
“Yes, Myra spoils a lovely moment between the couple and takes the focus off everybody else by collapsing! Everyone is horrified, there’s running around and ambulances and all sorts. No McQueen party is ever without drama…”

Are you excited about where the storyline could go next?
“John Paul doesn’t have any inkling to do with what Jez has been up to away from their relationship. Jeremy Sheffield [who plays Jez] is playing everything with a hint of anxiety and guilt. The more John Paul is loved up with him, the worse he feels about himself. At some point I hope there will be a big reveal, and we’ll get to play all that high drama.”
