Actor Olly Rix is set to make his Casualty debut this month as BBC viewers prepare to see the Call The Midwife star in a new light. Ahead of his debut, the 40-year-old appeared on The One Show to share what fans can expect to see.
Host Clara Amfo said: “Olly, for the first time, we’re going to be seeing things from the patient’s perspective which is so interesting.” The BBC host was curious as to how they managed to film those scenes.
Olly replied: “I was sort of built into a rig, the episode switched from my POV and then a reverse of an extreme close-up of my eyes. It’s quite an isolating experience which I think really fed into the performance.

Casualty’s Olly Rix breaks silence on BBC show ‘first’ as he shares ‘isolating experience’
“The director, George Siougas, is fantastic. He set it up, so it was a very organic process. I just got to look where I wanted to look at, which led to the tone and the shape of the show.
Although it’s not just Olly making his Casualty debut this series as he’ll be joined by Downton Abbey’s Robert Bathurst. The One Show’s Clara highlighted their two characters are closely linked.
Explaining their connection, Olly said: “Russell (Robert’s character) is my father-in-law. I come into the world of Holby from that quite specific background. Obviously, we’re from pretty different worlds and have pretty different tempos and thoroughly dislike each other on-screen!”

Speaking about his character, Robert revealed Russell is good at his job, although he isn’t too bothered about how people regard him. He said: “Things happen during the next weeks which are quite surprising, I think and they reveal a certain amount.

A synopsis of the upcoming episode teases there’s good news for one of the Casualty crew.
It reads: “Special episode told from a patient’s point of view, telling the story of a man involved in a road accident who is struggling to balance his family life and his military service – particularly in light of his affair with an officer who is severely injured in the crash. Stevie is surprised to find she recognises him, while Jodie asks Dylan to celebrate some good news with her.”
