Casualty has confirmed that a terrifying drug crisis will engulf the hospital in the huge new boxset.
BBC’s medical drama today (10 June) unveiled the trailer for ‘Supply and Demand’, a 12-part series which will delve into the “harrowing realities of a drug crisis” from various perspectives both within the hospital and outside.
The dramatic trailer, which can be viewed above, showcases the strain that the crisis puts on both the hospital staff and law enforcement agencies, with the line between professional and personal life being blurred as secrets are harboured.
“An interruption to the illegal drug supply chain puts pressure on the entire Emergency Department, who are also under strain from clinical drugs shortages,” reads the logline. “Whilst addicts scour the streets, hospital medics struggle to fill prescriptions.
“A daring crane rescue leads to personal tensions in the paramedic team reaching boiling point, leaving everyone wondering who they can trust, as questions are raised about Iain’s future,” it continues, with Flynn, Ngozi and Nicole also set to be a part of the storyline.

The saga is described as a “powerful exploration” of the “human spirit” as it touches upon themes of “addiction and the pursuit of hope”, with viewers set to witness the “poignant toll” that is placed upon the paramedics as they “grapple” with their “personal demons”.
While ‘Supply and Demand’ is the next part of the drama, the soap could soon undergo some changes in the near future, with the BBC recently announcing that they would welcome pitches from prospective producers.

The broadcaster did state, however, that any ideas would need to incorporate an in-universe setting shift to Wales, with the move aimed to align with the fact that the soap has been filmed in Cardiff for over a decade.
“We are asking tenderers to include authentic representation of Wales and reflect the reality of the Welsh NHS,” read a document from the BBC. “This is not about radical change of the show, although the move to Welsh portrayal will mean a new fictional hospital based in Wales.”
