The last time Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) saw Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) alive, it was New Year’s Eve in 2022, and Britt fended off Heather Webber‘s potentially deadly attack on Joss with a poison-laced hook. Britt wound up getting sliced by The Hook, and died in the arms of her devastated mother, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati). But that was then and this is now, and on Tuesday’s episode of General Hospital, a stunned Joss saw Britt in the flesh while on her undercover mission at the Five Poppies in Croatia. Soap Opera Digest got the inside scoop from Eden McCoy about her real-life reunion with Kelly Thiebaud — and what the story turn means for Joss.
Seeing is Believing
The actress says that she was overjoyed at the opportunity to share the GH stage with Thiebaud again. “I absolutely adore Kelly!” McCoy enthuses. “Kelly is amazing. She’s such a badass, she’s super-talented, and working with her is really, really fun. We are both jokesters and don’t take anything too seriously, so it’s challenging because there is always laughter, even when it seems like there shouldn’t be laughter! I was so excited when I heard she was coming back. I’m super-stoked to keep working with her, especially because it’s been a few years and we are at such a different point in Josslyn’s life. It’s just so much more interesting because now we’re both grown women and we’re both in this, like, weird spy world. So, it’s nice to have another female [in the storyline] that I’m so comfortable with, and for us to be doing similar things.”
Well, not quite. While Joss has infiltrated the Five Poppies to find out what shady activities the luxury spa is a front for, Britt is actively involved in the mysterious medical research taking place in a private lab that guests aren’t allowed to access. But from what viewers have seen so far, it appears that Britt is only doing so because she’s under the thumb of an equally mysterious male boss, one who seemingly holds her life in his hands, as he’s controlling Britt’s access to the medication — medication she needs so desperately that she recently reminded Pascal she can’t miss a dose.
According to McCoy, “When Joss first sees Britt, there are so many things running through her brain. I don’t know that she can even decipher her thoughts about it other than just pure shock, pure confusion. There’s also a weird sense of relief that she’s not dead, but then she goes to, ‘What is going on here?!’ ”
Expect Joss to confide in Vaughn, her fellow agent, in the aftermath of her stunning eyeful. Says the actress, “It’s really nice for Joss to be able to go back to Vaughn to explain this to him and to be able to tell it to someone who is such an outsider [when it comes to Britt].” As an objective party, McCoy notes, “He can kind of construct theories pretty immediately as to what she could be doing there — and it only makes sense that she’s involved in some way with the project that they’re there to look into because why else would someone fake their own death? Why else would she be here? And what are the odds that she’s here at the same time they are? We may not have any answers, but that’s kind of our answer for the time being.”
Help Me Help You
Joss even thinks she might be able to use her connection to Britt to her advantage. “Joss has that hope because she’s like, ‘Well, now I know somebody who’s involved in this who can perhaps tell me some information,’ you know? She’s thinking, ‘We’re friendly, we have a past.’ She thinks she can use that moving forward.”
Of course, the wrinkle in that plan is that Joss is undercover, posing as Mrs. Nash to Vaughn’s Mr. Nash. “That does make things more complicated,” McCoy allows. “It definitely makes everything riskier — but Josslyn is pretty determined to get answers.” Even if that means defying her bosses at the WSB. Teases the actress, “This is kind of a perfect storm, and it’s too big for Josslyn to overlook and not take action on.”
