The August 19 episode of General Hospital was packed with action, with Maxie (Kirsten Storms) having a heart attack, Drew (Cameron Mathison) wanting to press charges against Michael (Rory Gibson), and Carly (Laura Wright) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) getting into a heated argument at the Metro Court pool that left one of them soaking wet! Meanwhile, at the Five Poppies resort in Croatia, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Vaughan (Bryce Durfee) made love, and Jason (Steve Burton) finally approached Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… but it wasn’t exactly a happy reunion! Keep reading to see how it all went down.
Rush Job
During an appearance on Home & Heart with Lucy and hostess Flora, Maxie collapsed after putting some of Deception’s new Youth Truth Night Mask on her face! As the paramedics prepared Maxie to take her to the hospital, one of the EMTs revealed that she seemed to be having a heart attack. As Lucy alerted them to Maxie’s status as a heart transplant recipient, Brook Lynn called Spinelli to meet them at G.H.

A Splashy Exit
Over drinks at the Metro Court pool, Carly updated Lulu on Obrecht’s exit from the hotel, and Lulu pondered if she was doing the right thing by keeping Liesl from Rocco. Carly pointed out that Obrecht seemed to really care for Rocco and that sometimes, supporting your kids means making a compromise you wouldn’t consider otherwise. Spotting Nina entering the pool area, an angry Carly informed Crimson’s editor that she was only allowed to go from the parking deck to her office, and nowhere else in the hotel. From her table, Lulu watched the kerfuffle as Carly ripped into Nina for not telling Willow that she was sleeping with Drew before Willow torched her relationship with Michael. Putting the blame for all that Willow’s lost on Nina’s shoulders for not putting a stop to Drew’s manipulations sooner, Carly roared, “You had Willow and Drew kryptonite in your hand the whole time. But you were too busy covering your own ass to use it.”
Meanwhile, when Gio arrived to pick up his paycheck, he asked Lulu if he should step in to diffuse the situation between Carly and Nina. Just as Lulu advised him not to get between the women, she received a phone call from Brook Lynn with the news that Maxie had been rushed to the hospital.
As Nina and Carly’s argument raged on, Nina blamed Carly, Michael, and Drew for denying her the opportunity of being Willow’s mother in the past, and Carly accused Nina of selfishly protecting herself instead of coming clean with her daughter. Reaching her limit, Nina lunged for her rival, but Carly ended up pushing her into the pool! Once a soaked Nina climbed out of the pool, Carly threatened that neither Nina nor Willow would see her grandchildren ever again before stalking out.

Strategy Meeting
Sonny called Michael to his house, where Diane was also waiting, to discuss the legal ramifications of his punching Drew. The details, Diane noted, could be the difference between keeping Michael out of prison for attacking a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and preventing Sonny from giving in to Drew’s blackmail. To prevent Michael from losing custody of the kids, she explained, they had to gather evidence that Drew approached Michael’s son without his consent and said inflammatory things that harmed Wiley’s well-being.
As Michael wondered why Drew went to his dad first, Sonny explained that on top of wanting him to sell his piers to Sidwell and leave town, Drew had also demanded that Sonny get Michael to allow Willow visitation with the kids. “He can use this situation as leverage,” Sonny pointed out. Pushing back when Diane then suggested he petition the court to grant Willow visitation, Michael stood firm that he didn’t want it on the record that he approved of his ex-wife having contact with their children. When Diane and Sonny tried to understand why Michael was so adamant about his decision, he reluctantly shared his theory that Willow had been behind the mysterious incidents with Daisy, but had no evidence to prove it.
“Drew thinks that he can be Willow’s hero again if he sends me to prison and gets her kids back,” Michael brooded. The congressman does have a case, Diane agreed, and the best way to bolster Michael’s side was to prove that Drew deliberately provoked him by approaching Wiley. Ultimately, the case will come down to witnesses, the attorney added, but Tracy (whose hatred for her nephew was widely known), Stella (the aunt of Michael’s business partner, who also has established beef with Drew), and Drew’s own lawyer, Martin, were not going to cut it.

V.I.P.: Very Important Patient
Meanwhile, Drew demanded to see a doctor at the emergency room, but Liz suggested he go to urgent care. Claiming that he was worried about vision loss or a possible concussion, Drew stated that he’d hate to see G.H. be liable for not taking his injury seriously. Calling his bluff, Elizabeth offered to have the hospital’s lawyers get involved, and Drew backed down — but not before asserting that he was there for Willow’s sake as well. Since Michael was the one who assaulted him, Drew wanted it all properly recorded so Ric could present it as evidence during Willow’s visitation hearing. Reluctantly, Liz agreed to get the black eye documented, but warned Drew that he’d likely have to wait a few hours if he still wanted to see a physician.
While Felicia went over Drew’s paperwork with him, she ignored a call from Brook Lynn. After the congressman left, Liz mused to Felicia that she thought Drew had goaded Michael into punching him as a way to redeem himself in Willow’s eyes. Curious about who gave Drew a shiner, Lucas joined the conversation and was practically giddy to hear that Michael had delivered the hit. “Well, I’m sure Drew didn’t have it coming, like at all,” he quipped.
Just then, paramedics wheeled a patient into the E.R., and Felicia, Liz, and Lucas were shocked to see Maxie on the gurney. As Liz and Lucas worked on Maxie in an exam room, Lucy comforted Felicia — both of them worried since Maxie had been the recipient of B.J.’s heart — by the hub, and Lulu and Brook Lynn separately consoled a frantic Spinelli. Feeling that she needed to let Lulu be the one to support Maxie’s partner, Brook Lynn stepped back and told Flora that even though she and Maxie used to be rivals, she turned out to be the best friend she’s ever had.
Maxie flatlined, but after giving her several rounds with the defibrillator, Lucas and Liz were relieved when her heart began beating again. After Lucas informed Maxie’s anxious loved ones that she was stable, Brook Lynn pulled the doctor aside, asking if he had any idea what caused the heart attack. As Lulu eavesdropped, Lucas questioned if Maxie had had an allergic reaction to the Deception cream. Lucy, however, jumped in and shared that they’d all been part of the initial product testing, so any reaction would have shown up long before now, leaving Lucas puzzled because Maxie seemed to be in perfect health otherwise.

Playing Nice
Frustrated that she hadn’t received any updates from Brennan on the Croatia project, Anna left the WSB chief a heated voicemail. Just as she hung up, ADA Turner walked into her office, requesting that Anna open an investigation into Congressman Drew Cain. When Justine wouldn’t divulge anything more specific than she suspected Drew was abusing the power of his office, Anna was concerned that it was a trap that might ultimately end with her losing her job as commissioner.
Their closed-door meeting was interrupted when Drew burst in to speak with Anna — and he was pleasantly surprised to see ADA Turner there as well, as it saved him a second trip. “I have been the victim of a crime,” he haughtily declared, “perpetrated by Michael Corinthos.” Anna mocked Drew’s claim that he, a decorated Navy SEAL, was viciously attacked by his nephew, but when Justine jumped at the chance to investigate Michael on Drew’s behalf, Anna played along. Earning Drew’s trust, Justine agreed to look into charging Michael, and Drew offered Martin as a witness who would back him up.

Hitting The Sheets
Overseas in Croatia, Vaughn comforted Joss following their altercation with the assassin. Finally giving in to the sexual tension between them, they made love, but Joss awkwardly pulled away from Vaughan afterwards rather than bask in the afterglow. Noticing her mood shift, he questioned if she was having second thoughts, but she redirected the conversation to their WSB mission. The pair bounced theories back and forth about who might have sent the gunman to their room and decided that Britt was their best lead at figuring out what is going on at the resort — but they had to move quickly before whoever was behind the research either sent another assassin or extracted Britt. With a plan in place for Joss to approach Britt the next day, Vaughn suggested they go to bed for the night. As they both uncomfortably stared at the bed where they’d just had sex, Vaughn recommended they sleep in shifts in case anyone else showed up at their room. With his pistol in hand, he set up a chair in front of the door while Joss climbed into bed — then gazed over at her partner’s back.

Cuts Like A Knife
Elsewhere at Five Poppies, Jason showed up at Britt’s villa. When she said that she didn’t recall asking him to show up at her room in the middle of the night, or at all, Jason sarcastically replied that since she was pretending to be dead, he could see why she didn’t reach out. “Sense of humor. That’s new,” she deadpanned. Jason explained that he’d tracked her down at the resort after seeing her at the airport in Paris, but hadn’t come looking for her sooner because he wanted to respect her reasons for being underground. But when he realized that Obrecht didn’t know Britt was alive, Jason added, he began to wonder if being in Croatia was her choice.
“And if it wasn’t what? Were you going to find me and escue me?” she asked. He nodded silently. Jason urged Britt to come back home, but she could never go back to Port Charles, Britt stated, and since he’d spotted her in Paris, she couldn’t risk someone recognizing her if she returned there either. As they rehashed their muddled romantic history and began to share their survival stories, Britt grew angry when she learned that, while she believed Jason was dead, he was working undercover as an FBI informant to protect Carly.
Lashing out at her ex, Britt proclaimed that Jason didn’t deserve to know anything about how she survived Heather Webber’s attack and ended up at the Five Poppies. She made a choice not to subject those she cared about to watching her deteriorate, she stated, and her Huntington’s was now in remission. Jason was confident that she couldn’t have faked her own death without help and urged her to be open with him, but she refused. Warning her that the WSB was investigating the resort and she was in danger, Jason offered to help Britt leave, but she insisted she didn’t need saving… especially from him.
At first, Jason refused to budge when Britt asked him to leave and wondered what would happen if she called security. But rather than give Jason an answer, Britt insisted he get out of her room. He obliged, and once she was alone, Britt immediately made a phone call. “We have a problem,” she informed the person on the other end. “And we need to put a stop to it immediately.”
