General Hospital Recap: Anna Learns The Truth, Sonny Confides In Jason, Curtis and Portia Reunite

On the August 5th episode of General Hospital, Brennan (Chris McKenna) looped in Anna (Finola Hughes) on the WSB’s top-secret mission, Michael (Rory Gibson) shared his suspicions with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia (Brook Kerr) made up, Jason (Steve Burton) filled in Sonny (Maurice Benard) on what he saw in Paris. Plus, Carly (Laura Wright) and Lucas (Van Hansis) hashed out their argument, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) found a supportive friend in Chase (Josh Swickard), and Marco (Adrian Anchondo) learned about Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) plan for Sonny. Read on to find out how it all went down!

Spy Games

The person behind Anna’s abduction turned out to be Brennan, who had the police commissioner brought to his office to tell her that she’d come dangerously close to compromising a Level 5 operation. Instead of reprimanding her, Brennan shared details of the investigation, explaining that Henry Dalton is conducting research on cold fusion at PCU. Anna correctly pieced together that if the professor was successful, the technology could wind up in the wrong hands and be weaponized — and that the WSB had hired Josslyn, a college student, to infiltrate Dalton’s lab. Anna was shocked that Josslyn was a full-blown agent, and believed Brennan had made a huge mistake in sending an inexperienced recruit overseas. Jack’s reassurance that Josslyn and Vaughn were only on a recon mission fell on deaf ears, as Anna had no intention of standing down since her granddaughter, Emma, was also involved with Professor Dalton’s research.

Brennan reminded Anna that she could be prosecuted for treason if she shared the info he’d told her, throwing her double-agent past in her face. “Or was it triple? I’ve lost count. How many people have you betrayed, Anna?” Tossing back that she hasn’t betrayed as many people as Jack had, Anna began to exit the office. Brennan warned that if Anna attempted to interfere with the investigation, the next time she was taken, she’d wind up in Steinmauer. Acknowledging that she was backed into a corner, Anna told Jack that he, too, was in a box, because Carly was not going to be happy once she discovered that he’d recruited Josslyn while the young woman was mourning her boyfriend’s death.

Brennan took offense at Anna’s claim that he manipulated Josslyn and got even more worked up when Anna told him that she knows he’d been a player in the past, but she’d never seen him the way he is with Carly with any other woman. As they moved out to the reception area, Jack insisted that the stakes were higher than anyone’s personal relationships, but Anna warned him that things could get messy with Carly if Josslyn’s mission goes sideways. Jack maintained he was confident that Josslyn and Vaughn would come back from their recon in Dalmatia without a scratch before going back inside his office. Hearing the location of the resort led Anna to flash back to her conversation with Jason about Britt, who had been carrying a tote bag from a hotel in that area when he saw her in the Paris airport.

A Painful Realization

After a run with Dante, Michael opened up about how much he missed Daisy and shared his theory that Willow had been the one targeting the baby as a manner of payback. “A big part of me is hoping that I’m wrong, because if my suspicion is true, if it really was Willow, this changes everything.” Dante thought it was still possible that one of their father’s enemies had been behind the baby-related mind games, but as he talked it out with his big brother, Michael was more convinced than ever that it was Willow, and not Selina Wu or one of her henchmen. “Now that I know the lengths Willow will go to, I can’t let her anywhere near my kids,” Michael swore.

Apology Tour

Meanwhile, Chase checked up on Willow at the hospital. She asked him how her kids were doing. Though she was momentarily upset to hear how much Wiley and Amelia have changed since she’d been out of their lives, Willow admitted that she had to work on herself before the custody hearing, and that started with taking accountability for her role in the judge’s decision and figuring out a way to undo all the damage she’d caused. After giving his ex-wife a pep talk, Chase offered to testify on her behalf at the custody hearing, and a grateful Willow hugged him.

Carly tracked down Lucas in the break room at the hospital and begged her brother to move back home. Lucas agreed to accept her relationship with Sonny, even if he didn’t like it, and Carly apologized for the things she’d said about both Brad and Marco. Despite the siblings’ reconciliation, Lucas declared that because of Sonny, he had no plans to move back in. “I am resigning as your houseguest, not as your brother,” he reassured his upset sister, who then gave him back a key to the house so he could visit any time.

After parting ways with Lucas, Carly ran into Willow and Chase in the hallway. An emotional Willow apologized for the scene she’d made at Carly’s house, and said her former mother-in-law had been right about everything with Drew. However, Carly wasn’t buying the apology, comparing it to similar ones she’d heard numerous times in the past from Willow’s late twin sister, Nelle. Besides, she wasn’t the one Willow should be apologizing to, Carly spit out, walking away as Willow held back tears.

Reunited, And It Feels So Good

Curtis invited Portia to the Metro Court to celebrate the truce he’d struck with Drew. Portia had her doubts that Drew would actually drop the extortion, but Curtis countered that as long as his former friend believed Nina was the one who blew the whistle on their affair — and not him — they were in the clear. When Portia asked if the truce with Drew meant that Curtis was now ready to fight for their marriage, her husband replied that the point of their date was to figure out how to find their way back to one another. “But this doesn’t mean I’m excusing your actions,” he cautioned. “It just means that I understand. And I’m sorry that I made it hard for you to confide in me. I own that, and I’ll work on it.”

Taking accountability for her part in the mess, Portia admitted that her fear of losing Curtis, Trina, and her career was what led her to make the decisions she did. Curtis revealed that, amid the chaos, witnessing how strong and brave she was in the face of Drew’s blackmail attempts made him realize that he was wrong to judge her, and the couple toasted their reunion.

Plan B

Elsewhere in the restaurant, Tracy met with Marco and Sidwell to inform them that a part of Sonny’s investment in Deception was made with laundered money. After he advised Tracy against going to the police, she berated Sidwell for pulling his funding of Measure C. They were interrupted by ADA Turner, who wanted to know why Marco had fabricated his statement about his abduction to cover up that Sonny was behind it. Marco’s insistence to Justine that he was standing by his signed statement led Tracy to conclude that Sidwell didn’t pull out of Measure C voluntarily, but rather under pressure from Sonny. “Regardless of my reasons, I will still be very useful behind the scenes,” Jenz promised with a wink.

Tracy still wanted to go to the police with the evidence of Sonny’s money laundering, but Jenz and Marco pointed out that because Deception had been holding on to the files for months, the company looked guilty. Furthermore, Marco explained, Deception’s assets would be frozen as soon as she turned over what she had. Undeterred, Tracy declined to “take advice from a man who lives in a faux Medieval fortress and associates with Lucy Coe” and left.

Once alone, Jenz wondered why his son had let Sonny off the hook, to which Marco replied that it would have been an uphill battle to pin his abduction on the mobster. Sidwell revealed that he had something else to use against the mobster: The judge in the custody trial of Sonny’s grandchildren had received a large, untraceable sum of money on the day the trial ended, and if the payment was to come to light, the logical conclusion would be that Sonny bought her off. Sidwell said he was just waiting for the right time to set off the potential domino effect of the ruling being thrown out, Willow regaining custody, Michael cutting ties with his father, and Sonny having no choice but to fall into line.

Playing Hardball

Following a softball game, Jason and Sonny grabbed a beer at the pool deck, and Jason filled in his pal on how he believed Britt was still alive. Jason explained that he called the resort depicted on the bag of the woman he saw at the airport and heard Britt’s voice in the background while he was on the phone with a manager. “She was demanding, she was bold. This was Britt,” Jason declared, adding that there was no record of Britt having been cremated, either.

Sonny wondered if his friend was going to track her down, but Jason felt he should honor Britt’s choice to vanish. Sonny then pointed out that perhaps Jason should tell Britt that he’s alive, since the last she knew, he’d been crushed to death in Greece. But Jason didn’t want to assume that Britt would want to know he’d survived, even if he was struggling with not reaching out to her.

Making her way up to the pool deck, Justine went over to Jason and Sonny to congratulate Corinthos Coffee on their win earlier at the softball game. “Shame you had to rig the game to get it,” she claimed, lobbing another dis when she added, “Then again, breaking the rules no matter who gets hurt… that’s your specialty, isn’t it?”

The dimpled don offered the ADA a smile before asking how she thought he’d rigged the game against the fire department’s squad since both teams were previously undefeated. After accusing Sonny’s team of cracking the fire department’s pitch calls, Justine said she was ready for every trick Corinthos Coffee had when they faced off against the PCPD at the next night’s game. “We’re going to beat you fair and square,” Sonny vowed. Huffing out a disbelieving laugh, Justine grumbled, “Fair and square? Yeah. That’ll be a first,” before stomping away.

After Jason made light of the assistant district attorney’s dramatic exit, Sonny noted that an exit was exactly what he was banking on. As Turner was building a case against him, he explained, he was taking note of how every time she questioned him without his attorney present, it showed bias, and she’d have to recuse herself if she ever filed charges. “She thinks she’s in control,” he smiled, “but I’m sitting tight, calling all the shots.”
