EastEnders star Laura Doddington has teased what we can expect from her character Nicola Mitchell’s new romance with George Knight.
Nicola and George recently began a passionate fling, with the pair forming a connection and bonding over their difficult pasts.
Their budding romance fizzled out and things have got pretty tense – with George currently suspicious of Nicola’s son Harry and his relationships with both Gina and Kojo.
But speaking exclusively to us at a photoshoot for the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Laura has revealed that the story of Nicola and George’s relationship is far from over and that there could be more twists to come…
“The future for Nicola and George is very interesting, I think,” she teased. “You can expect quite a rollercoaster ride.
“I mean, of course, it’s Nicola Mitchell – it’s not going to be a lovely little sailboat through an ocean, is it? It’s going to be exciting, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
This is the latest dramatic plot for Nicola, who has made quite the mark in Albert Square since her arrival back in November – and Laura had fun recapping everything her alter ego has been up to.
“So I’ve been on EastEnders now for nine months, and it has been incredible!” she remarked. “If you look back at the storylines I’ve been given, it’s just been a rollercoaster…
“Murdering my eldest son’s girlfriend, revealing – or not wanting to reveal – the paternity of my youngest son, getting back together with my family then exploding it, having rivalry with Sharon, and almost getting Zack killed. It’s been quite extraordinary. And I’m now sleeping with George!”
Viewers will remember that it was Nicola who dobbed in drug dealer Ravi to the police, which inadvertently led to Harry working for him and completing illegal work to pay off his debt.
As this story continues to get darker, has Nicola accidentally put her son in grave danger?
Newbie Nicola has quickly become a firm favourite with EastEnders fans, and for her memorable performance Laura has been nominated for Best Newcomer at this year’s awards.
“It feels utterly incredible to have been nominated for Best Newcomer,” said Laura, reacting to this nod. “I still can’t believe my luck that I’m part of such an amazing soap, and to have that recognition just feels really lovely.”
Asked why fans should get behind EastEnders in the Best Soap category this year, Laura replied: “Fans should vote for EastEnders because it has been an absolutely epic year! I feel so privileged to have joined the show at this time.
“The 40th [anniversary] was incredible, and the performances have been phenomenal. I think it’s a really close call for those who’ve been nominated. I am just having the time of my life. I just think it’s the best place to work, in the world ever!”
