Bradley’s character Lewis Barton was first introduced to us when he wrote a letter to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) back in May of this year. He confirmed that he is Emma Barton’s son, and was adopted when he was very little.
Lewis was hoping to meet some of his family in the village and learn more about the life Emma lived, completely oblivious to the dark events that occurred as a result of his mum’s actions.
At first, Lewis’ brother Ross Barton (Michael Parr) seemed reluctant to meet up with the new face. He then decided to go for it, concluding he didn’t really have anything to lose.
Ross enjoyed chatting to Lewis at first, but his constant questions about Emma and the rest of the Barton clan left him feeling overwhelmed. His priority was to protect Moira, which meant lying to Lewis about who their mum was and how she died.
His curiosity about his new brother grew when Ross learnt that Lewis was growing cannabis plants in his loft. At this point, Ross and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) decided to join forces to try and raise some money to give to Moira, who was struggling with farm fines.
The fact that Lewis carefully grew the plants primarily for medicinal use was completely ignored by Ross and Mack, as they decided to break into Lewis’ house and steal some of the products.
Unfortunately for the pair, Lewis had cameras in the loft, which meant he caught Mack breaking in. He locked the door, and told Ross he wouldn’t let Mackenzie out until he finds out what really happened to Emma.
It was at this point Lewis discovered that Moira Dingle murdered his mum. He thought about reporting her to the police, but Ross told his brother it would be pointless – the police probably wouldn’t believe him but even if they did, Ross would tell them about his sibling growing cannabis.
It’s certainly been a busy few months for Lewis. Just recently, star Bradley Riches took to Instagram to share a picture of him as Lewis, and reflected on everything his character has been through so far.
‘How I feel that Lewis has officially been on screens for 4 months’, he wrote.
‘He’s been through a LOT. Met his Half- Brother. Met his mums Murderer. Found out the truth about his mum. Got his 🪴 stolen. Started working in the cafe. Brought shares in the cafe. And so much more…
‘But what’s to come…’
Lewis has proved to many members of the village that he’s a determined young man.
After expressing his interest in becoming a successful businessman, he spied an opportunity when he saw Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) struggling to manage everything on her own in the café.
He decided to help her out, and then learnt Nicola’s partner Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) was still reaping the benefits of the business, despite no longer being here.
