Simply the Best
Deciding which of the many superstars who have graced daytime television is the cream of the crop is no mean feat. (We know; we’ve tried before to compile such an impossible list.) But if anybody can do it, we figure it’s gotta be the Emmys. So below you’ll find our countdown of the best of the best, ranked in order of how many awards they’ve won.

Honorable Mention: Susan Lucci
The All My Children icon may have only scored a single Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for making the name Erica Kane synonymous with daytime television, but c’mon. Would this list be complete without her? Don’t answer; the question was rhetorical.

25. Steve Burton
This soap vet with the bluest eyes this side of Frank Sinatra was given Outstanding Supporting Actor trophies for his performances on both General Hospital (as “Stone Cold” hitman Jason Morgan) and Young & Restless (as Nikki Newman’s surprise son, Dylan McAvoy).

24. Amelia Heinle
After passing through The City and All My Children, the Young & Restless leading lady got bookends: two Outstanding Supporting Actress statuettes for making Victoria Newman not only a force to be reckoned with in the boardroom but everywhere else, too.

23. Eileen Davidson
The soap-hopper has earned two Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys, one for her work as the villainous Kristen DiMera on Days of Our Lives, the other for her star turn as beleaguered Ashley Abbott on Young & Restless.

22. Darnell Williams
The All My Children alum, who was so beloved as Jesse Hubbard that he was brought back from the dead decades after his “passing,” bagged his first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor before going on to win again for Outstanding Lead Actor.

21. Nancy Lee Grahn
The on-screen powerhouse snagged her first Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy for Santa Barbara (where she played whip-smart attorney Julia Wainwright) and her second for General Hospital (where she plays whip-smart attorney Alexis Davis). Hey, she has a type.

20. Scott Clifton
Knocking ’em dead as perpetual recovering waffler Liam Spencer on Bold & Beautiful has added Daytime Emmys in the Lead, Supporting and Younger Actor categories to this natural born scene stealer’s trophy case.

19. Jennifer Finnigan
Before moving on to primetime, this Bold & Beautiful alum scored one Outstanding Younger Actress win after another after another for the nimbleness with which she navigated Bridget Forrester’s many and varied travails.

18. Michael E. Knight
Since he was playing “Tad the Cad” Martin, can we joke that he slept his way to the top? Whether we can or can’t, we must note that after electrifying All My Children to the tune of two Outstanding Younger Actor Emmys, this fan fave put to bed a third award for Supporting Actor.

17. Cady McClain
To date, this actress is the only one in history to win Emmys in three categories (Outstanding Younger Actress, Supporting Actress and Guest Performer) for three roles (Dixie Cooney on All My Children, Rosanna Cabot on As the World Turns and Jennifer Horton on Days of Our Lives) on three different networks (ABC, CBS and NBC).

16. Mary Beth Evans
How “sweetness” it is! Evans has been named Outstanding Lead Actress once (for scrubbing in as Days of Our Lives doc Kayla Brady) and twice for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Digital Drama (for making waves as Sara Garrett on The Bay).

15. Billy Miller
His head-turning work as incorrigible Billy Abbott on Young & Restless earned the late fan favorite two Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmys and one for Lead Actor to boot. We can only imagine how many more triumphs would have been to come, had he lived.

14. Maura West
Bravura performances on As the World Turns (as supervixen Carly Tenney) and General Hospital (as Ava Jerome, aka the ultimate femme fatale) delivered triplets to West: three Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys.

13. Gina Tognoni
The soap-hopper had to learn to accessorize with an Emmy as she racked up two Outstanding Supporting Actress wins (for playing Guiding Light pot-stirrer Dinah Marler) and an Outstanding Lead Actress triumph (as a Young & Restless’ recast Phyllis Summers).

12. Michelle Stafford
She could set fire to the rain, this one. So it should come as no surprise that her portrayal of combustible Phyllis Summers on Young & Restless led her to an Outstanding Supporting Actress victory and two wins for Outstanding Lead Actress.

11. Maurice Benard
An offer to give the General Hospital star three Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor for his work as Port Charles’ brooding godfather Sonny Corinthos was one that NATAS voters couldn’t refuse — and didn’t.

10. Peter Bergman
Sometimes it’s nice to be naughty. After shedding the persona of All My Children good guy Cliff Warner, Bergman unleashed his inner bad boy as Young & Restless’ Jack Abbott — to the tune of three Outstanding Lead Actor Emmys.

9. Jacqueline MacInnes Wood
The Canadian-born Bold & Beautiful MVP pulled off a hat trick, taking home three Outstanding Lead Actress awards for ensuring that heavy hitter Steffy Forrester always packs a punch — and not necessarily metaphorically, either.

8. Susan Flannery
One of daytime’s true greats, Flannery earned her first Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for her work as embattled Laura Horton on Days of Our Lives. She then crowded three more awards in that category into her trophy case for her portrayal of Bold & Beautiful queen bee Stephanie Forrester.

7. Kim Zimmer
Guiding Light’s Reva Shayne may have called herself the slut of Springfield, but her portrayer was hailed as the toast of the town as she scored three Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys for her no-holds-barred portrayal of Springfield’s scarlet woman.

6. Jonathan Jackson
Luck had nothing to do with Jackson’s history of Emmy wins. Lucky Spencer, on the other hand, had lots to do with it. For breathing life into the General Hospital legacy character, Jackson took home three Outstanding Younger Actor statuettes and two more for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

5. Heather Tom
The first performer ever to write, direct and act in an episode of daytime television, Tom has racked up two Outstanding Younger Actress and one Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmys for her stint as Victoria Newman on Young & Restless and three Outstanding Lead Actress statuettes for her portrayal of Katie Logan on Bold & Beautiful.

4. Justin Deas
For a while there, we always imagined the words “And the winner is… ” being followed by Deas’ name. The actor, formerly Tom Hughes on As the World Turns, Keith Timmons on Santa Barbara and Buzz Cooper on Guiding Light, won four Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmys and two for Outstanding Lead Actor.

3. David Canary
Since the late, great veteran of Another World played good and evil All My Children twins Adam and Stuart Chandler, we’re not sure; should we multiply his five triumphs in the Outstanding Lead Actor category by two? Any way you slice it, that’s a lotta Emmys!

2. Erika Slezak
You could argue that the Emmys should really be named the Erikas, seeing as the One Life to Live legend who played Viki Buchahan won not three or four but a half dozen Outstanding Lead Actress statuettes during her long and storied run on the much-missed soap.

1. Anthony Geary
Consider him a “Tony” winner — get it? The force of nature whose work as Luke Spencer helped save General Hospital from cancellation back in the day hit the jackpot eight (!) times at the Daytime Emmys in the Outstanding Lead Actor category.
