Barney Mitchell was left heartbroken on EastEnders as a new love triangle was introduced on the soap.
Barney has been a quiet presence in Walford since arriving with his father Teddy and brother Harry last year, with the shy teenager being far less boisterous and more tactful than his other family members.
Despite their contrasting personalities, Barney sought some advice from his brother earlier this week as he confessed his feelings for close friend Avani Nandra-Hart, with Harry urging him to pluck up the courage to ask her out.
After some hesitation, Barney sensed an opportunity to confess his feelings for Avani as he invited her to his mother Nicola’s birthday party. She accepted his offer, with Barney planning the perfect date ever since.

Thursday’s (24 April) episode began with the Mitchells celebrating Nicola’s big day, though she had her own issues to sort with the developments at Paradise Park. Barney, meanwhile, was evidently nervous ahead of the party, with the teenager forgetting his school book.
Teddy caught up with his son to hand the book back, and recalled the story of his first date with Nicola as he attempted to ease Barney’s nerves. Despite all the pressure, Teddy reassured his son by telling him to “be yourself”.
Avani, however, was going through her own issues as she admitted to her father Ravi that she didn’t want to go into school due to her increasing feelings of loneliness, with the teen still feeling the effects from her recent strip search ordeal.
As the party got underway, Barney looked evidently sad after Avani didn’t show up, with Kojo – who himself had gotten some advice on romance from Harry – urging him to reach out to Avani immediately.

As he headed to Avani’s with a gift in tow, Barney was empathetic as Avani shared that she wasn’t feeling up to it. Just as Barney attempted to hand Avani the present, an arrogant Joel Marshall waltzed in despite the fact that he hadn’t been invited.
Avani attempted to invite Barney inside but the heartbroken teen elected to head back to the party by himself. With Avani’s feelings remaining unclear, just how will Walford’s latest love triangle resolve itself?…
