HOT SHOCKING UPDATE!! Casualty’s Olly Rix reveals why Flynn’s first episode is unique to the show

Casualty’s latest boxset ‘Internal Affairs’ kicks off this week, and with a new clinical lead – Flynn Byron, played by Call the Midwife’s Olly Rix.

But before he takes the reins, Flynn is involved in an accident and is rushed to the ED, with the innovative episode being told from the patient’s point of view.

“I’m definitely excited for viewers to see it”, Olly says about his much-anticipated episode, as he chats to us at Inside Soap. “I think it’s radically different to anything they’ve seen before.”

Olly teases what to expect from his mysterious character as he takes up the important new role…

Hi Olly, welcome to the ED! How would you describe Flynn to viewers?

“I really love Flynn. I think he’s complicated, he’s human, and he has some blind spots – but, like a lot of very brilliant people, he sort of gets aways with it or manages it as he goes. He’s an extremely competent doctor and comes from a very high-achieving background. He’s an interesting mix of quite extreme qualities, which can be either jarring or explosive!”

Where do we find Flynn when we first meet him?

“He’s a special forces medic and is about to be promoted to colonel. We meet him a few days before he’s due to go on tour, so he’s quite tightly wound initially. In the opening scenes, he isn’t sleeping well and he’s working out in the dead of night. I got to spend some time with some special forces soldiers in the lead-up to the role and this helped me to develop the physicality of Flynn.”

Flynn is in a serious accident and ends up in the Emergency Department as a patient…

“I was told that the show has never introduced a character in this way, so it’s quite unique – both in terms of the story and the way we did the filming itself. You see Flynn’s point of view, so I was holding the camera when we were filming it. The way the lens move is dictated by the character. It’s meant to be impactful, and Flynn is meant to come crashing into this world. I’m really proud of this episode, it was written and directed beautifully.”
