An EastEnders character has quit their soap on the market immediately after several years
A beloved EastEnders character has walked out of their position and has already secured fresh employment.
Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) has remained a cornerstone of the BBC soap since making her first appearance in 2005. As Billy’s (Perry Fenwick) other half, she’s been central to numerous major plot developments.
From her romance with Billy through to her struggle with bulimia, Honey’s journey in Walford has been packed with explosive moments.
This is particularly true at present, with the programme recently unveiling a significant shift for Honey’s character.
Viewers will remember that several years ago, Honey departed her position at the Minute Mart to become Walford’s market inspector, ensuring all the local traders toe the line.
More recently, she had her sights set on securing Mr Lister’s senior market inspector position, following his announcement that he intended to step back from his role overseeing the traders, reports Plymouth Live.
Mr Lister had previously suggested that Honey might follow in his footsteps, and during Thursday’s instalment (August 14), Honey decided to bite the bullet and arranged to meet with Mr Lister at the café.
However, her plans were derailed when he disclosed that he wasn’t actually in a position to step down. Absolutely furious, Honey later expressed her frustration to Billy, arguing that she’d been overlooked for the promotion simply because of her gender.
Mr Lister subsequently appeared and informed Honey that he had already committed the role to a male colleague from a competing market.
Honey was absolutely incandescent and resigned immediately, declaring to Mr Lister: “I will not be humiliated, I will not be taken advantage of I quit!” Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) then proposed that Honey take her old job back at the Minute Mart, which she accepted, agreeing to start in a week’s time as she desires a “little bit of me time”.
